Position Summary


The Press Assistant assists in the operation of a printing press and keeps the presses supplied with the specified paper stock and needed materials.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities


· Read press schedules to ensure that the correct paper is supplied to the presses when needed. Manage partial-roll inventory by using partial rolls before full rolls.


· Ensure paper meets job specifications and roll splices are prepared in a timely manner for continual press operation.


· Set up quality splices that run through the press with minimum paper weave and sheeter jams.


· Keep roll tags for each roll used in order at the press. Maintain an accurate, legible roll report throughout the shift.


· Remove finished product to WIP (work-in-process)


· Label unused stock with roll tag and identify the stock on the outside.


· Keep press supplied with chemicals, rags and other consumables as needed.


· Keep area behind and around the press clean, swept and organized.


· Replace full gaylords of waste as necessary.


· Assist press operator in webbing press.


· Maintain cutoff registration and inspect product for quality defects during the run.


· Wipe down press when time permits


· Other duties as assigned.


Hours of Work


Monday through Friday 1st shift 6:00 am to 4:00 pm


2nd shift 4:00pm to 2;00 am


Job Requirements


This Position requires:


1. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).


2. Good communication skills, both oral and written


3. Basic math skills.


4. Mechanical trouble-shooting skills.


5. Understanding of all Press procedures and understand appropriate terminology, job flow, job tickets, and comply with the quality standards for the Press area.


6. Ability to communicate with Supervision, Operators, other assistants and Mechanics.


7. Availability to work overtime on short notice when needed


Accountability


This Position requires:


1. Ability to come to work on scheduled days.


2. Punctuality.


3. Ability to provide accurate splices in a timely manner.


4. Minimize press downtime by having supplies, and fountain solution to the presses as needed.


5. Cleanliness of area


6. Control of miscellaneous materials


7. Recognition, support and compliance with relevant company policies.


Physical Demands


· Standing and walking required while monitoring production of the press. 75-100% of shift.


· Walk a distance of 30 feet or more to transport finished product to Work in Process area using an electric or manual pallet jack. This is done 5-10 times per shift


· Lift roll shafts weighing 50 – 70 lb.s from waist height and push into new roll. This is done 10 – 30 times per shift.


· Frequent bending, crouching, twisting and kneeling involved during set-up and equipment repair/adjustment.


· Frequent pushing and pulling of stack lifters and pallet jacks throughout the shift.


· Occasional packing duties requiring repetitive jogging of product and stacking in boxes.
