Summary: With little or no assistance, the CNC Machinist will operate 2, 3, 4 and/or 5 axis CNC machines and conventional machines to produce complex aerospace parts demonstrating advanced cross training flexibility. They will have experience with most, if not all automated CNC machines and their operational capabilities.
Essential Functions:
- Fully operate multiple machines as needed, including CNC and conventional Mills and Lathe’s Perform pre-operational inspections
- Studies blueprints, manuals, dispatch specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements
- Perform complex set ups without assistance on multiple machines; checking or changing chucking jaws, tools, rotating off sets, etc
- Operates sit down forklift to retrieve parts and load them onto racks
- Utilize cranes and hoists to load and unload parts from racks onto machines
- Operate machines on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings and programmed controls
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
- Calculates and sets controls to regulates machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls as required Verifies conformance of finished workpieces to specifications
- Track time on each function or task by maintaining time records on BAMC
Minimum Experience: Minimum 5 years of CNC experience and preferably 3 years of conventional experience
Experience with set up and running different types of machines, including both manual and CNC
Or at the discretion of the hiring manager/director
Minimum Education:
- High School graduate / GED preferred
- Trade school for machine/CNC or equivalent work experience
- Or at the discretion of the hiring manager/director. Certifications/Licenses:
- Forklift or Crane Operator certified, preferred but not required
- ANSI Y14.5 (Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing – GD&T), preferred but not required Skills & Abilities:
- Able to set up and run different types of machines including manual and CNC
- Basic computer skills
- Able to read and understand blue prints
- Experience with 2 or 5 axis preferred
- Basic shop math skills for set-up of machine and to follow specifications
- Able to work within specific time lines
- Knowledge of heat treat process to able to work with machined parts
- Must be accurate and detailed with minimum errors
- Perform job with minimum supervision
